Who we are

Cocomo.dev is a digital development studio run by Cody Chapin, a sole proprietorship based in Portland, Oregon. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit cocomo.dev, contact us, or work with us. “We,” “us,” and “our” mean Cocomo.dev.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Contact form: your name and email address, plus anything else you choose to share: organization, phone number, the services you’re interested in, and your message. Each submission is also saved with your IP address and browser details to help us spot spam.
  • Email and project communication: what you send us by email or share while we work together, such as contact details, project details, and account access you provide for your website or tools.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics: Google Analytics records the pages you visit, how you arrived (for example, from a search engine or another website), your general location (such as city or region), your device and browser type, and how long you stay. It uses cookies and a randomly generated ID. We use these reports to improve the site, not to identify you. Google Signals and Google’s advertising features are turned off.
  • Spam protection: on our contact page only, Google reCAPTCHA checks that a real person is submitting the form. It collects information such as your IP address, browser and device details, and how you interact with the page, and sends it to Google.
  • Security and server logs: our web host and our security firewall log technical details such as IP address, browser type, the pages requested, and the time of each request. This keeps the site running and protects it from attacks.

How we use information

  • To reply to your message and talk with you about your project.
  • To provide our services, including project communication, scheduling, and billing.
  • To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
  • To keep the site secure and keep spam out of our inbox.
  • To meet legal, tax, and accounting requirements.

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising. This site doesn’t show ads, and we don’t use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.

If you log in to the site’s admin area, WordPress and our security plugin set additional cookies that are needed for login and security. Regular visitors don’t receive these.

Your choices

  • Turn off analytics: select “Decline” in the cookie notice, or use the “Privacy choices” link at the bottom of any page to change your choice at any time.
  • Global Privacy Control: if your browser or extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out, and Google Analytics won’t load.
  • Browser settings: you can block or delete cookies in your browser. You can also use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Who we share information with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the site and our business, and only as needed for that work:

  • Google: Google Analytics (site statistics), reCAPTCHA (spam protection), Google Workspace (our business email, including emails sent from the contact form), and Google Drive (storage for website backups).
  • GreenGeeks: our web host, which stores the website and its data.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of Cocomo.dev, our clients, or others.

The contact form is protected by reCAPTCHA, and Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.

How long we keep information

  • Inquiries: contact form entries are deleted automatically after 6 months. If we don’t end up working together, we also delete related emails within 6 months.
  • Client records: for as long as we work together, and afterward for as long as needed for tax, accounting, and legal purposes.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics keeps detailed data for up to 14 months; after that, only summary reports remain.
  • Email delivery logs: our email system keeps a record of messages sent from the site for 7 days.
  • Security logs and backups: kept for a limited time. Older backups are replaced automatically as new ones are made.

How we protect information

We use HTTPS encryption, a security firewall with malware scanning, two-factor authentication for site administrators, limited access to data, and regular backups. No website or email system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and review our safeguards regularly.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, US state privacy laws may give you the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have about you and get a copy of it
  • Correct information that’s inaccurate
  • Delete your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising, and profiling (we don’t do any of these)
  • Not be treated differently for using these rights

We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live. To make a request, email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject line. We’ll confirm the request comes from you, usually by replying to the email address we have on file, and respond within the time required by law. Someone you authorize can make a request on your behalf with proof of that permission.

If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision with “Appeal” in the subject line. If you’re not satisfied with the outcome, you can contact your state attorney general.

Children’s privacy

This site is for businesses and organizations, and it isn’t directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Other websites

This site links to other websites, and some images, such as our hosting badge, load from other companies’ servers, which can see your IP address. Those companies have their own privacy policies, which we don’t control.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update it on this page and change the effective date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll add a note at the top of this page.
